2010 AGM

2010 Commonwealth Games

Lindsay Peden writes, [11/8/2010]

[in an email to SRA members] It remains for me to wish Ian Shaw and Angus McLeod the best of luck in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October and I trust that you will all be rooting for them also.

Allan Mabon writes, [1/1/2010]:-

From the end of season 2009 four contenders have emerged who will compete to be the SRA’s two nominees for places in Teamscotland at the Commonwealth Games in India in October 2010.

Three of the athletes, Dot, Angus and Ian, again accompanied by Allan, will travel to India earlier in 2010 to take part in the CSFC (Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships). This event will be held on the new range being built as the venue for the fullbore competition at the Commonwealth Games at the Central Police Reserve Training School, Kadapur, one hour’s journey south of Delhi.
The CSFC was scheduled to take place during the latter half of February in 2010 - and indeed all other disciplines’ events will go ahead at that time – but difficulties with the construction of the fullbore facility have resulted in postponement and new dates, some time between Mid-April and Mid-May, have yet to be determined.
As the individual responsible for the HPS, Allan thanks all those who took part in its training and competition programme throughout 2009.

The following information has been released by the SRA (previous):-

The Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships, to be held at Kadapur, New Delhi, in late February 2010. The range at Kadapur is currently under construction and is to be the venue for the fullbore events at the IXX Commonwealth Games in October 2010.
Only two individuals represent each participating country at the CG.  Currently four Scots who remain in contention and will compete for Scotland's two places throughout 2010 until the end of the Imperial Meeting. The four are Dot Dallas, Angus McLeod, Lindsay Peden & Ian Shaw.
At Under 25 level, Sam Adamson & Natalie Sarafilovic will continue in 2010 to receive Scottish Institute of Sport support from their respective Area Institutes.

SRA tour of Australia Australian flag

An SRA team to Australia is announced, and below is a letter from its captain, David Hossack. David may be contacted at

Most members will know that the SRA has honoured me with leading a Scottish team back to Sydney next year in order to try to repeat the famous victory we achieved there in 2000.

While in no way wishing to interfere with or interrupt preparations for the forthcoming tour to South Africa next month, I would like to draw your attention to the following note, since this Australian tour is only a year away and we need to start thinking about detailed planning upon our return from South Africa.

A good number of members have expressed interest in this tour, and by means of this note I would like to remind anybody else who fancies what should be a really entertaining and fun tour to get in touch with me within the next month when I shall be seeking commitment from those chosen to be in the team.

The current plan is to fly to Sydney on or about Tuesday 7th September to give us some recovery time prior to taking part in the team and International matches which start on Saturday 11th,  and to compete in the 150th Anniversary meeting from Wednesday 15th which culminates in the NSW Queens Prize on Sunday 19th September. The next day would be free to explore around Sydney during which we could perhaps drive to Hunters Valley, the famous wine area and/or explore a bit of the hinterland including the Blue Mountains, or have a look around Sydney and ‘The Rocks’ area or perhaps climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I hope to arrange a team dinner that evening on board a luxurious private boat touring around Sydney Harbour like we did in 2000.

We would fly from Sydney to Perth on Tuesday 21 September. This would give us Wednesday 22 September to settle in / sort ourselves out in Perth before starting shooting on 23rd September, culminating in an International match on Tuesday 28th.

It is possible that for those who can spare the time, a short holiday might be possible prior to the main tour at a place yet to be determined, but this will depend upon available time and cost.

For those of you already ‘on the list’, I have already been in touch. For anybody who has not heard from me and who would be interested in being considered for the team, please get in touch with me within the next month as we will be looking for firm commitment in April for those selected.

Best wishes
David Hossack
